Artist's Background Statement
Sheila Letven is a multi media artist who welcomes the complexities of new and different media. She enjoys painting in oils and often merges her paintings with three dimensional structures. Although she sometimes uses found objects, she usually crafts or sculpts whatever is needed.
Oil paintings with images spilling out over hand crafted frames
led her to find a new way to treat surface and enter another
dimension. Using boxes with doors allowed for hidden possibilities
to emerge and this process suggested sculpting tiny monumental
animals and people. Letven is also involved with photography,
creating her own world of slightly off center visions.
Nature and the every day objects of our life are nothing new, still they constitute the source of inspiration for this artist.
Sheila Letven attended The University of The Arts and graduated from Moore College of Art on a four year Board of Education scholarship from Philadelphia , Pa.
